An exploration of the salt lakes in the Western District of Victoria.  Its inhabitants known as halophiles — salt-loving organisms — and the natural elements, paint the landscapes with varying colours and textures.

I was first drawn to them after seeing images of Lake Eyre and the salt pans of Western Australia.  The search began in June 2014 through maps and the internet, till a friend suggested looking around the Corangamite region on the way home from visiting him.  Thus my quest began…

The vast horizon and reflections of clouds on the water leave you spellbound.

The smell of salt and ammonia fills the air.

The earth cracks under the scorching sun.

Crystals glisten in the midday light.

Remnants of life that once was, consumed by foam and clay.
